Basketball

I am on the sophomore basketball team this year and we had our first two games this past weekend.  The first game was on Friday night against the Springfield Lanphier Lions.  All three levels had a game: freshmen, sophomore, and the varsity.  Unfortunately Notre Dame lost all three games.  The freshmen and sophomore had pretty close games, coming into the last quarter.  The Varsity had a rougher game, losing by around ten points.  after the bus ride home, we decided that the next day there was going to be another sweep, but this time it would be in our favor.  We got on the bus at noon and left for Jacksonville on Saturday, where we played at the Jacksonville Bowl.  It was a very cool looking gym and we did come out with three wins.  Our freshmen and sophomore teams had an easy time, and the varsity came out of a very exciting game with a huge comeback in the third quarter.

Winter Season

I think that the winter season is my favorite season of the year.  This is due in part to Christmas, which is my favorite holiday.  I really enjoy playing out in the snow with my family at my house.  I live out in Kickapoo, so it always seems like we get more snow than everyone in town.  Another reason I like the winter season is because sometimes when we get a lot of snow we aren't able to make it up the hill by our house, so we get our own snow day!  Christmas is my favorite holiday because we get a long break form school, I get to spend a lot of time with my family, and some relatives usually come in town.  One of my best memories of the winter season was from last year when we got a bunch of snow and my whole family was stuck at our house.  We were outside the whole day and no one had to go anywhere, that's pretty rare for my family.

News Podcast Project

I didn't really like this newscast project very much, mainly because I don't like hearing and seeing myself doing it, and having the whole class watch it too.  Although it was interesting to look for a cool news story to do it on.  Jessica Blair and Michael Gray are in my group and we have not had a chance to actually tape our newscast yet because there is always someone else there when we get to class! We chose to do ours on a principal in Florida who promised his students he would live on the roof of the school for a week if their test scores improved as a whole.  They did, so then he had to keep his promise.  He set up a tent, brought food, and greets the student on their way to school. What I Am Thankful For

There are many things that I am thankful for in my life.  First of all, I feel very fortunate to have the close family that I do.  Even though I like playing sports and hanging out with my friends, nothing beats a good day at home.   I am also very close to all of my cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents.  The second thing that I am thankful for is my relationship with God.  I go to mass every week with y family and do my best to pray every night.  Thirdly, I am thankful for how I am doing academically and athletically.  I am on the high honor roll and play three sports throughout the year.

My Invention

If I could make one invention it would be an object that could teleport you to any place you wanted to go in an instant. It would be in the form of a chain or metal, so I would be able to wear it around my neck. All I would have to do would be to think very hard of the place I want to go while holding the chain firmly in my hands. I would not sell this invention. I know that sounds kind of greedy, but if everyone had one the world would be a very crazy place. This would help me in many ways. For instance if I were to be late to anything I could get myself there in a second and be on time. It would also help if I wanted to do something with my friends, because I wouldn't have to work around my parents and have my time limited because of their schedules.

Political Cartoon

This political cartoon is humorous because it shows many files that are kept by the president that he doesn't want anyone elso to see. From the labels you can tell that he has been keeping some secrets.

This photo is from the Bejing Olympics this last summer. It shows the U.S men's 4X100 freestyle relay team who won the gold despite what everyone thought. The odds were against them, as the French were heavily favored to win it. Michael Phelps needed this gold medal to beat out Mark Spitz for the most gold medals won at a single Olympics, and thanks to the help of Jason Lezak, a much older swimmer and anchor of the team they won the race. Lezak swam the fastest split for that race ever and came back in the last fifty meters to overtake the French. The French had been trash talking before the race, which only angered and motivated the U.S team. This was not too smart on the Frenchie's part. They were shocked to find that the U.S team had come back after such a lead, but it was only fair because trash talkers never win, and winners never trash talk.

Scary Movie Podcast

Last week we had to make an audio podcast on the scariest movie we have seen. Now I'm mot really one for scary movies and I haven't seen very many but I did my podcast on I Am Legend. I thought this movie was very interesting but it was also a little creepy. I wrote my script, and then turned it in to Mrs. Brown on Tuesday. The next day I started to record in using the Garage Band feature on the Macs. I thought my voice sounded really wierd but a lot of other people said they thought the same about thiers. It ended up to be about two minutes long and I presented it to her on Thursday.

Valuable Lesson

In the summer of 2003, my younger brother, Brendan, got a gash in his knee while swimming in a lake in Wisconsin. We were on our annual camping trip and it was the first day that we had been there. It was so deep that you could see his knee cap. We had to take him to the hospital there, and he got some temporary stitches. It was very painful for him throughout the rest of the trip and when we got back to Peoria we took him to St. Francis where we found that he had a rare infection in his leg. As a result he had to have a couple surgeries and was in intensive care for two weeks. He was only in third grade and was a very rough time for our whole family. Meanwhile, my two sisters and I stayed at my grandparents house and made visits to the hospital as often as we could. Brendan is completely fine now, with the exeption of a long scar on his leg. This taught me the importance of family and how quickly your life can change.

Report Card

I am surprised at how fast the first quarter of the year has gone by already. I think that my report card will be good but the grades in some of my classes have dropped in the last week, including in this class, so I need to get those all up. This year, overall, I have a pretty easy schedule and it hasn't been too tough to keep the grades up, but recently I have been very busy and I think they have suffered some what due to that.

Peoria Logo

I visited www.peorialogo.com tonight and voted for the logo that was my favorite. I don't know what the current logo looks like but I'm glad that Peoria is changing theirs because change is good. I chose the logo that had a road going through a city with different bright colors like green, blue, and yellow. I liked this logo because it caught my eye and it was very colorful. I think that this would be a good logo for our city becasue it is a good representation and may give others a positive attitude towards the city if it is unfamiliar to them.

Favorite Halloween Costume

My favorite Halloween costume was when I was a siamese twin with my actual twin, Katie. We did this in 8th grade. My great aunt sewed a very big sweatshirt together and put some Halloween logo on it. It was a really fun idea, and a lot of our friends tried it on and wore it around too. We went trick or treating with some of our friends on Halloween in our old neighborhood. After one of the houses there was a steep hill that I couldn't see because it was so dark, and I fell down it dragging Katie down with me. We lost all our candy, but it was pretty funny.

iphoto project

When I saw that we had to do this iphoto project, I was not thinking it was going to be as fun as it actually has been. I have almost all of my pictures picked out, and I should be able to finish it if the pictures are still saved on the macs when I get to class tomorrow. Today our class had a lot of problems with that and many people had to start over, so if I were you I would try and work at the same computer everyday and save anything important onto your flash drive. I hope we get to do fun projects like this more often. (maggie rothan)

Newsletter

My newsletter is going pretty good. My group is Peter, Jessica, and myself. we have the front page set up and almost have all of the articles written. Tomorrow we will have to type it all on the letter and do some of the finishing touches. I hope that we can finish it on time. We also will have to look again at the rubric to make sure that we have everything and don't get any points taken off for missing things.

Physical Development

This year my physical goals include staying healthy, when it comes to sickness and injury, and hopefully growing a little taller over the course of the year. It is very important to get as much sleep as you can in high school, and I have not been getting very much lately. Much of this is due in part to it having been Homecoming week, but I'm quite alright with that because this week was a blast. I play three sports; soccer, basketball, and track, and I hope to stay fit and healthy throughout the whole year.

Newsletter Assignment

This week we are going to be assigned to make a newsletter having to do with Homecoming, with a group consisting of three people. Tomorrrow we have to pick our groups and I'm not sure who I'm going to be with yet. For the assignment we are each going to write a page about one aspect of Homecoming, then put them together to form a newsletter. I think that I'm going to write about the different days of Homecoming week such as twin day, gradeschool day, and class color day.

My Intellectual Develpoment

Along with my goal pertaining to my emotional development, I have a goal for my intellectual develpment this year too. My goal is to stay on the high honor roll throughout the whole year, like last year, which means I would have to maintain a 4.0 GPA or better. I accomplished this last year and I hope that I will be able to do the same this year. I also want to have not only a 4.0 or better but straight A's to go along with that.

Emotional Goals

My hope is that this year I will grow in many ways, and one of these ways would be emotionally. I plan to grow by being put in certain situations that I am not particularly familiar with and handeling them in a mature and respectable way, along with learning from them. That is what I hope to accomplish this year and Peoria Notre Dame High School.

Saint Power Point

So far the saint power point is going very well, at least compared to the other assignments. I'm almost finished, all I have to do is the MLA slide and add in the pictures and I brought it home on my flash drive so I'll try and finish it this wekend if I have time. I'm doing it on St. Thomas the Apostle. He was my comfirmation saint and he is the patron saint of architects and I want to be an architect whwen I get older. Also he is called "The Twin" and I'm a twin. Can you believe it!?

Thoughts on the Mission Statement

This year I have set a goal for myself to grow and develop spiritualy through being taught the faith by teachers along with other students, and by doing my best to be an example to other students on how to be a Disciple of Christ. If this goal is met I will have adhered the mission statement of our school and shown that it is a positive way to be the best disciple and person that I can be. .

I made a lot of progress on my storybook today in class, I'm doing the song Cheeseburger in Paradise by Jimmy Buffet. I've never done a power point on keynote so tomorrow I'll need major help in making the transitions between slides, changing the colors, and so on. I'm getting a little tired of soccer practices in this rainy weather. We play Quincy Notre Dame this Saturday at Notre Dame at, I think eleven.

Hey, I just fixed up my blog so now you can play games, take a poll, take a look at the national geographic picture of the day, and some other cool stuff. I've found that there's so much you can do to your blog to make it more interesting. Don't forget to comment.

My New Blog

Hi, I just set up my blog. It was a little harder than it had to be due to my very slow computer, but otherwise it was pretty easy. I really like the new Mac computers and I think this will be a very interesting class. The only problem is that I think we are working too fast. I don't have a Mac at home and I know this is the first year and everyone is learning, so I think that it would be more beneficial to myself and the class if we worked on the assignments at a slower speed so that we can learn more about the computer instead of worrying about getting the assignments done on time. I have talked to other classmates and they also find it to be a little too fast-paced and therefore confusing. It would be very much appreciated if this was taken into consideration.
